EVO is a heavy metal band formed in 1981 in Barcelona, driven by bassist Pedro Bruque. Alongside Josep Vicente Richard (guitar), Pepe Cánovas (guitar), and Ramón Solà (drums), they established the group’s initial sound, characterized by their energy and an evolution towards speed metal and thrash metal. After some lineup changes, in 1983 they signed with EMI and recorded their first LP, Animal de Ciudad, in London.
Despite discrepancies with the producer, the album received promotion and impact in South America. In 1984, they shared space on the compilation album Hot Metal alongside legendary bands like Iron Maiden and Scorpions. In 1985 they released their second LP, Duración de lo Eterno, with a more elaborate musical orientation. However, sales did not meet EMI’s expectations, and the band dissolved after failing to secure a third album with the label. Over the years, there was an attempt to reform EVO, such as the Canary Islands phase led by Stímula (vocalist), with a new album, Puta Pasta, in 2009.
However, this project did not achieve the impact of previous works. In 2022, Richard, Zippy, and Ramón Solà resumed the project with a new lineup, a new vocalist, César AQuemaRopa, also accompanied by a young guitarist, Pol. In 2023, they marked their return as the “authentic Animal de Ciudad”. Currently, in 2025, they are preparing a new album that will be released this year or next.
